Florida’s Olivier Rioux, standing at 7-foot-9, made his eagerly anticipated debut against North Florida, becoming the tallest player in college basketball history. The game ended with the Gators securing a 104-64 victory.
With less than three minutes remaining and the Gators leading 102-61, Coach Todd Golden brought Rioux onto the court, prompting a loud chant of “Oli, Oli, Oli” from a crowd of 10,065 fans. The moment also coincided with the unveiling of the 2025 championship banner.
“It felt great,” said the 19-year-old Canadian. “The support from everybody was amazing. Even on the bench and even with the fans. I’m very grateful.”
Rioux did not record any points or rebounds in his debut but was warmly applauded by the fans for making history.
