Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the United States to face trial related to a shooting that occurred outside a Miami boxing event in May, police confirmed on Thursday.
According to the Miami Police Department, the 37-year-old athlete is currently detained in Essex County, New Jersey, and is awaiting transfer to Miami-Dade County. The timing of Brown's apprehension and transportation to Florida has not been disclosed.
“This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police detectives, working closely with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami,” police said in a statement.
Authorities have charged the former All-Pro wide receiver with attempted murder following a violent altercation on May 16 during a boxing event hosted by influencer Adin Ross. Brown’s social media posts indicated he had been staying in Dubai for several months prior to his arrest.
When an arrest warrant was issued for the Miami native in June, his attorney initially secured a $10,000 bond and house arrest arrangement. However, Brown failed to surrender himself, and officials at that time declined to confirm whether extradition was being pursued.
