Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face an attempted murder charge linked to a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, authorities reported.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that the 37-year-old Brown was brought back from Dubai. A public affairs officer from the U.S. Marshals Service stated Brown arrived earlier that day via Newark, New Jersey, where he was booked into the Essex County Jail.
During his time on the run, Brown posted videos from Dubai. Miami Police Spokesperson Officer Michael Vega said,
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh.”
He added,
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
A warrant was issued in June charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm related to a May 16 shooting near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street. According to the warrant, an off-duty officer working security at the event heard gunfire and, upon leaving the venue, witnessed Brown physically fighting with another person in the parking lot.
Antonio Brown faces serious legal consequences as Miami authorities bring him back from overseas to answer for the attempted murder charge.
