A unique, hand-built full-size reproduction of the Spitfire MK IX will serve as a powerful symbol honoring the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in conflicts past and present this Remembrance Sunday.
The aircraft will be exhibited in Millennium Place, Durham City, on Sunday, 9 November, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, coinciding with the annual Remembrance Parade.
In 2025, two significant anniversaries are observed: the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. These milestones inspired Durham's Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Andrew Harrison, to organize a special tribute.
With assistance from Squadron Leader (Retired) James A Cowan MBE and Simply Spitfire, the reproduction fighter aircraft was secured to provide a fitting tribute.
The Spitfire will be displayed along the route of Durham City’s annual Remembrance Parade, which runs from 10:00 am to noon on the same day.
"A unique reproduction Spitfire will act as a striking symbol of the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in conflicts past and present this Remembrance Sunday."
