Jennifer Lawrence recently opened up about how her difficult postpartum experience after the birth of her second child influenced her approach to her latest film, Die My Love. The actress, 35, shared her thoughts during the New York City premiere of the movie.
In Die My Love, Lawrence portrays a new mother grappling with the challenges of motherhood. She revealed that her own struggles with postpartum anxiety gave her added insight for taking on the role.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby]. I think that just added another layer. I mean, I don't think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means, but having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.”
Lawrence, who shares a three-year-old son Cy and a younger son born earlier this year with husband Cooke Maroney, has been candid about her mental health. She recently discussed postpartum anxiety in an interview with The New Yorker.
“I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she told the publication, describing her fears as a new mother.
Her personal experience has deepened her understanding of motherhood, enhancing the authenticity she brings to her roles and allowing her to connect more closely with her characters.
