‘On the beach’: Aussie slugger’s bigger aims

Australian cricketer Tim David expressed confidence that his enormous six in Hobart traveled farther than the official record, revealing his ambition to "face more balls" and become a key player for the T20 World Cup next year.

After almost sending a six out of the stadium at Bellerive Oval, David has set higher goals as he prepares for the T20 World Cup. He scored 74 runs from just 38 balls against India on Sunday night, but noted that the match had limited relevance to World Cup preparations since pitch conditions in India can vary greatly depending on the opposition.

David’s mammoth six measured 129 meters, making it the longest six ever officially recorded in T20 international history and the largest six measured by Fox Cricket. The shot would have traveled further if it hadn't struck the stadium's grandstand roof sign.

“It’s good fun hitting balls on the roof. I haven’t seen any balls up there and I haven’t hit any up there,” David said, reflecting on his experience hitting sixes in Hobart during the BBL for the Hurricanes. “I was hoping it would land on the beach. It hit the top rung of that little advertising sign. I’m always dubious about the measurements.”

David is embracing a strategic promotion up the batting order as part of Australia’s aggressive tactics to achieve World Cup success, making him a valuable asset in the team’s plans.
