Ethan Hawke fondly recalled his recent collaboration with Taylor Swift during his first visit to Miami on November 2. The actor was honored with the Miami Film Festival’s Variety Virtuoso Award and shared highlights from his career in a conversation with Variety co–editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.
Hawke reflected on working with Hollywood legends such as Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ben Stiller, and Julia Stiles. However, he appeared especially enthusiastic when discussing his reunion with Josh Charles, his co-star from Dead Poet’s Society, for Swift’s music video Fortnight, featuring Post Malone.
The project, written and directed by Taylor Swift, came about through an unexpected message from Hawke’s daughter, Maya.
“My daughter is creating opportunities in my life. I get a text from my daughter saying ‘Hey dad, Taylor Swift wants your number.’ So I guess they met. And anyway, Taylor Swift is a ‘Dead Poet’s Society’ fan, and so, hell, I’ll take what I can get,” Hawke shared.
He expressed admiration for Swift’s creative vision and energy:
“That woman is incredible. She’s a force of nature.”
These remarks came as Taylor Swift gained fresh attention with the release of a new version of her No. 1 hit from The Life of a Showgirl.
Ethan Hawke warmly praised Taylor Swift, highlighting her talent and the surprising way their collaboration unfolded thanks to his daughter’s intervention.
