Liberal senator Sarah Henderson expressed hesitation about the Coalition's ability to recover under leader Sussan Ley. As the party prepares to finalize its stance on net-zero emissions targets, concerns about Ley's leadership have surfaced.
"I do have to say really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support," Henderson told Sky News on Friday. "But I do believe in miracles."
Henderson paused when asked if the party can improve with Ley leading and stated she could no longer support the current direction.
"I'm not in the business of throwing anyone under the bus, I'm stating the bleeding obvious, we are in a dire situation," she said. "The infighting has been terrible and I'm terribly sorry about what's been going on in the Liberal Party."
Despite her criticism, Henderson acknowledged Ley's leadership in organizing meetings aimed at establishing a clear policy on energy and climate, calling it a "significant step forward."
Senator Henderson was removed from the shadow cabinet after Ley assumed leadership.
"The opposition leader called a series of meetings as a significant step forward," Henderson said.
