Channel 9’s chief footy reporter, Tom Morris, has made a surprising switch to rival network Channel 7. The 34-year-old announced on Friday morning that he accepted a lucrative offer from Channel 7, ending his tenure with Channel 9, where he had worked since January 2024.
The successful recruitment was led by Seven’s head of sport, Chris Jones, and SEN boss Craig Hutchison. Their efforts will add Morris to Channel 7’s already strong lineup of top footy talent.
Although he joins the network, Morris is not expected to take on a leading on-air position. Mitch Cleary will remain Channel 7’s chief footy reporter. However, the combination of Cleary, Morris, and Xander McGuire—who recently transferred from Nine—promises a powerful team.

"Seven’s head of sport, Chris Jones and SEN boss Craig Hutchison were behind the successful poaching attempt."
