Jackson Blake and Sean Walker each contributed a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Minnesota Wild 4-3 at the Lenovo Center on Thursday. Andrei Svechnikov and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored, while Frederik Andersen made 21 saves for the Hurricanes (9-4-0), who extended their winning streak to two and have won three of their last four games.
“Blake is probably the one who needs the most credit for tonight,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “The one goal was all him, and the other was just a great pass.”
Matt Boldy scored twice for the Wild (5-7-3), who had been on a two-game winning streak before this matchup. Filip Gustavsson stopped 23 shots in goal.
“They’re a high-pressure team. There were times I thought we handled it well, and there were times when there was another good team on the ice too,” Minnesota coach John Hynes said. “We got some looks in different segments of the game.”
Boldy opened the scoring at 5:34 in the first period. After Hurricanes forward Mark Jankowski accidentally slipped the puck under Andersen, Boldy was there to tap in the loose puck in the slot, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead in his 300th NHL game.
The teams then combined for three goals in a dramatic 52-second span during a fast-paced 4-on-4 sequence, highlighting the intensity of the contest.
The Hurricanes improved their record to 9-4-0, dominating in key moments, while the Wild showed competitive spirit despite their narrow loss.
Author's summary: Carolina Hurricanes secured a tight 4-3 victory over Minnesota Wild, fueled by Blake's standout performance and Boldy's two goals in a fast-paced, competitive matchup.
