Prince Harry has publicly apologised to Canada after facing criticism for wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during their World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays on October 28 at Dodger Stadium.
Alongside his wife Meghan Markle, the Duke of Sussex watched Game 4 of the series in Los Angeles. The 41-year-old prince faced backlash for appearing to support the Dodgers instead of the Toronto Blue Jays, the only Canadian Major League Baseball (MLB) team. Critics noted that his father, King Charles, is the head of state for Canada and other Commonwealth realms.
During an interview with CTV News on November 6, Harry addressed the controversy directly.
“Well, firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it,”
He humorously added that he was “under duress” when he wore the cap, explaining that there “wasn’t much choice” as he had been invited to the Dodgers’ box and dugout by the team’s owner.
Several fans expressed disappointment that the Duke did not show support for a Canadian team, given his family’s ties to the Commonwealth. Despite the criticism, Harry used the opportunity to reaffirm his affection for Canada.
Prince Harry lightheartedly apologised to Canada for wearing a Dodgers hat, explaining he was “under duress” while highlighting his continued fondness for the country.
