Crystal Palace returned to winning form in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, earning a 3-1 victory at home over AZ Alkmaar in London. It was their first-ever home win in the main stage of a European competition.
After a surprising defeat to AEK Larnaca at Selhurst Park, Oliver Glasner’s side responded strongly. Maxence Lacroix opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a sharp finish, and Ismaila Sarr added two more goals to secure the result.
"The game we lost here was sad for us, but we said before we want to give the win to the fans. Everyone deserves it," said Maxence Lacroix to TNT Sports.
Mainz came from behind to defeat Fiorentina 2-1, with Lee Jae-sung scoring the decisive goal in the 95th minute.
Crystal Palace earned a long-awaited European home victory with Sarr’s brace and Lacroix’s opener restoring confidence after a tough defeat.
