Manchester United remain unbeaten in four Premier League matches but were held to a draw against Nottingham Forest last weekend, with Benjamin Sesko delivering a disappointing performance. The Slovenian striker moved from RB Leipzig in the summer for £74 million, scoring two goals and providing one assist in ten league games so far. Manager Ruben Amorim continues to ease the 22-year-old forward into his system.
Sesko had shown signs of improvement with goals against Brentford and Sunderland before the international break, yet his display against Forest reignited debate about his adaptation to the Premier League.
“I'm no further forward with him. The jury is out,” said Gary Neville to NBC Sports. “He's well off it compared to the other summer signings that Man United made up front in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. He looks awkward, had some good chances in the first half, but his control wasn’t right. For £80 million, you can say he’s young and still settling, but you expect more.”
Speaking later on The Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker shared Neville’s concerns, acknowledging that Amorim’s other attacking signings seem to have adapted faster to his tactics.
“I would say they are slightly better. I think they are moving in the right direction,” Lineker commented, referring to Cunha and Mbeumo’s progress compared to Sesko.
Gary Lineker and Gary Neville both question Benjamin Sesko’s slow adaptation at Manchester United, noting that other new signings have adjusted more smoothly to Ruben Amorim’s system.
