The Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), a T20 cricket tournament conducted in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, involving local, national, and international players, is facing serious disruptions. Several players remain stuck at a local hotel amid reports that the organisers have abandoned the event and fled the Valley.
The privately sponsored event has been halted after multiple players allegedly boycotted matches due to unpaid wages, causing significant upheaval.
According to Economic Times, IHPL was organised by the Mohali-based Yuva Society and was reportedly promoted by the J&K Sports Council. The Council's secretary, Nuzhat Gul, attended the opening ceremony and a match. However, Gul later distanced the government and the council from the league.
“Officially, this league has nothing to do with the government or Sports Council. They had booked Bakhshi stadium for the matches and paid for that,” Gul said.
When asked about her presence at the inaugural match and the promotion of the league, she added, “I can get invites from anyone… that doesn’t prove any association or impact my credibility in any way.”
The IHPL in Srinagar is currently in disarray, with unpaid dues causing player boycotts and organisers reportedly abandoning their responsibilities.
