Engineering company Jacobs announced its involvement in the Neom project Oxagon, expressing pride in its role despite ongoing concerns about human rights issues in the area.
Jacobs was selected to provide technical and environmental advisory services to DataVolt under a broader $5bn (£3.8bn) development program. The collaboration aims to "deliver a fully sustainable, net-zero data centre ecosystem."
DataVolt is constructing an artificial intelligence (AI) factory campus in Oxagon, a key industrial zone within Neom. This facility is part of Neom’s effort to establish an advanced manufacturing and logistics hub with a strategic connection to the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean, and the Red Sea, facilitating trade with Europe, Africa, and Asia.
“Designed to operate at net zero, the facility will help meet rising global demand for AI data processing while minimizing carbon emissions.”
Jacobs noted that the data campus will function entirely on renewable energy and incorporate efficient cooling systems and low-impact architecture to cut its environmental footprint.
Jacobs supports Neom’s Oxagon project, aiding DataVolt in creating a renewable, net-zero AI hub that connects major global trade routes despite ongoing ethical concerns.
