The New York Knicks overpowered the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, winning 137–114 in a commanding performance. Both franchises share a rich connection, stemming from the 2024 trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
More than a year after the blockbuster deal, Towns reflected on his journey and his enduring sentimental bond with the Timberwolves organization, which drafted him first overall in 2015.
"You feel more like a Knick now after what we went through last year to get to the heights we reached. But it's weird when you see that Timberwolves jersey, especially those fire black ones y’all got. Not being able to see Towns on the back, it's a weird feeling. I love those guys; I love that locker room to death. I'm willing to do anything for them, even if it wasn't about basketball,"

Towns spent nine seasons with Minnesota before the trade, developing strong emotional ties with the team and city. Despite moving on, his appreciation for those relationships remains evident.
Both New York and Minnesota have benefited from the trade so far, each reaching their respective Conference Finals in the 2024–25 season. Time will tell which side ultimately gains the upper hand—or secures an NBA title.
Karl-Anthony Towns fondly recalled his years with the Timberwolves while embracing his new identity with the Knicks after a trade that reshaped both teams’ futures.
