The Golden State Warriors faced the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday night without their superstar Stephen Curry. In Curry's absence, rookie Will Richard delivered an impressive performance.
Starting for the first time in his career, Richard scored 30 points on efficient shooting, going 10 for 15 overall (66.7%) and 5 for 8 from beyond the arc (62.5%). He also contributed seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal during his 35 minutes on the court.
“Will was amazing,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “From the beginning of camp, he’s shown he’s an NBA player and the experience, the poise. He doesn’t turn it (the ball) over. He can handle the ball under pressure. This guy’s a hell of a player.”
The Warriors acquired Richard’s draft rights from the Memphis Grizzlies during the second round of the 2025 NBA draft by trading the 59th pick and a conditional future second-round pick. Prior to the NBA, Richard played three years for the Florida Gators. He was the first transfer commit under head coach Todd Golden, joining from Belmont.
Despite Richard’s standout effort, the Warriors narrowly lost to the Kings with a final score of 121-116.
Author’s summary: Rookie Will Richard impressed with 30 points in his first NBA start, showing poise and skill while the Warriors fell just short against the Kings.
