After a viral altercation with Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch, Miss Universe executive Nawat Itsaragrisil issued a public apology and will see limits on his participation in upcoming events, according to the Miss Universe Organization.
The 60-year-old Thai TV personality addressed the incident during a press conference on Wednesday, November 5. According to USA Today, he became emotional and broke down in tears while speaking to the media.
"I want to take this opportunity to say something about what happened. Because I am a human,"
Itsaragrisil said, acknowledging the pressure that comes with his position.
"I think you must understand the pressure is a lot. I am a human sometimes. By the way, I did not intend to hurt anyone."
He then continued,
"I have to apologize to the delegates."
After speaking, he bowed to the contestants and later apologized to Miss Universe followers and anyone affected by the situation.
Earlier in the week, Itsaragrisil drew criticism after a viral exchange with Bosch during a sash ceremony, when he reportedly called the 25-year-old Mexican model a "dumbhead," a term interpreted as “fool” or “empty-headed.”
Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly apologized for insulting Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch, expressing remorse and stress over the incident that quickly spread across social media.
