Nawat Itsaragrisil, the organiser of Miss Universe Thailand, tearfully apologized after making controversial comments about Mexico’s contestant, Fatima Bosch.
During a livestreamed event, Nawat was accused of calling Bosch “dumbhead” due to her failure to follow promotional guidelines. This prompted Bosch and several other contestants, including the reigning Miss Universe, to walk out in protest.
The Miss Universe Organization condemned his conduct as “public aggression.”
At a news conference in Bangkok, Nawat denied ever using the insult, explaining that his words were misheard. He expressed his sincere regret and apologized tearfully to both the contestants and viewers.
