Rick Stein at New InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach

Travel Weekly visited Rick Stein’s new restaurant at the freshly opened InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, showcasing a breezy Mediterranean-inspired coastal aesthetic. The luxurious 198-room hotel now hosts this flagship venue, blending seaside charm with refined dining.

Design and Atmosphere

The restaurant accommodates 224 guests across three distinct spaces: an open courtyard near the reworked main entrance, a balcony overlooking Arden Street, and a spacious main dining area. The design includes floor-to-ceiling doors opening onto the deck, creating a bright, open feel. Inside, there is also a 10-seat chef’s table and two 12-seat banquette sections, adorned by two striking wall artworks depicting an arrow squid and a school of fish.

Sass’s Bar Revival

Sass’s Bar, honoring Stein’s wife Sarah, reimagines the former karaoke lounge of what used to be the Crowne Plaza. The bar adds a lively social element to the coastal venue, complementing the relaxed yet elegant restaurant ambiance.

Opening and Guest Anticipation

The soft opening, limited to 80 invited guests, has already drawn significant attention with more than 3,500 booking site visits upon launch. Officially, the restaurant will operate for lunch and dinner on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, while opening for dinner only from Monday through Thursday.

“Sydney’s Coogee Beach is the perfect location for our flagship Australian restaurant. It’s relaxed yet sophisticated, with that incredible connection to the ocean that has always inspired my cooking. For us, this feels like coming home.” — Rick Stein

Chef’s Arrival and Next Steps

Rick Stein is expected to arrive on December 20 following the initial soft opening. With its blend of culinary excellence, coastal atmosphere, and warm aesthetic, the restaurant promises to be a standout on Sydney’s vibrant dining scene.
