Laos has officially begun its fifth nationwide population and housing census, which will run from November 28. The data collected will serve as the foundation for monitoring the country’s socio-economic development plan and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
The census will collect detailed information on population size, structure, growth, and geographic distribution. It will also cover areas such as ethnicity, disability, housing conditions, education levels, and access to basic services.
According to the Lao News Agency, the results will offer valuable insights into living conditions across ethnic communities and support national policy and development planning.
This census is notable as the first fully digital one in Laos, marking the outcome of four years of preparation. The digital transformation aims to enhance data precision and ease of access, bolstering the country's statistical system.
The new nationwide digital census in Laos will improve data accuracy and guide key policy and development plans across all sectors.
