India secured a 48-run victory over Australia at Carrara Oval in the fourth T20I on Thursday, taking an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
India defended a total of 167 for 8, with their bowlers delivering an impressive performance to bowl Australia out for 119 in 18.2 overs. Washington Sundar was outstanding, taking 3 wickets for just 3 runs. Axar Patel (2/20) and Shivam Dube (2/20) played key roles in triggering a collapse in Australia's middle order after a promising start by openers Matthew Short and Mitchell Marsh.
Axar Patel, awarded Player of the Match, attributed his success to the slower pitch conditions.
“Credit to all the batters, right from the top. Abhishek and Shubman realized it wasn't a 200-220 wicket. The messages were quite clear from outside as well. Gauti bhai was saying the same things which I wanted to as well. There was some dew, but the way they bowled was amazing. Good to have bowlers who can give you 2-3 overs, and if needed four overs too. On another day, Washi might bowl four overs. Very excited for the final game.”
“167 was probably par. In those chases, you just need a couple of partnerships and we didn't get that.”
India now hold a strong advantage going into the final match of the series, showing balanced batting and bowling performances.
India's disciplined bowling and key contributions with the ball helped them dominate Australia, securing a crucial 2-1 lead in the series.
