A hyper-realistic sculpture of US President Donald Trump wearing an orange jumpsuit and tied to a cross has drawn public attention and mixed reactions in Basel, Switzerland.
The piece, titled "Saint or Sinner," was created by British artist Mason Storm. It portrays President Trump in prison clothing, eyes closed, positioned on a padded white cross slightly tilted backward, suggesting a crucifixion or an execution by lethal injection.
The installation has been exhibited in Basel’s city center since Saturday, following a previous display in Vienna earlier this year.
"It is scary realistic," said Konrad Breznik, owner of the Gleis 4 gallery where the piece is displayed.
"When we installed it, we came that close, and you would see every wrinkle and the skin is so realistic, it's really scary," he told AFP.
Originally planned for the Basel central train station in September, the exhibit was later moved to a more open spot along Basler Kunstmeile, a popular pedestrian area. The strategic location increased public engagement, with electronic counters recording over 3,000 passersby on Monday alone.
The piece merges political commentary with religious symbolism, prompting reflection on public perception and the nature of judgment in contemporary politics.
Author’s summary: A lifelike sculpture of President Trump in Basel provokes both fascination and discomfort, turning art and politics into a striking public conversation.
