At least nine people were confirmed dead after a UPS cargo aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff near Louisville International Airport in Kentucky on Tuesday evening.

Initial reports indicated seven fatalities and eleven injuries on the ground, but the death toll later rose to nine, with more casualties feared.

“Kentucky, more heartbreaking news out of Louisville. The number of those lost has now risen to at least nine, with the possibility of more,” said the Kentucky Governor. “Right now these families need prayers, love and support. Let’s wrap our arms around them during this unimaginable time.”

Dashcam videos circulating online showed the plane veering to one side before crashing and erupting into flames, sending dense black smoke skyward. Additional CCTV footage of UPS Flight 2976 revealed how close bystanders came to disaster.
