SOCIETY: Mutilated Body Found in Haute-Saône

The investigation into the dismembered body discovered in Fédry, Haute-Saône, has expanded beyond France. Authorities have detained a 39-year-old French woman in the Swiss canton of Vaud, where she now faces a criminal inquiry conducted by Swiss prosecutors.

According to police sources in Vaud, the suspect lived in Sainte-Croix, near the French border, sharing a home with a 75-year-old man reported missing since October 31. Two days after his disappearance, a fire broke out in the apartment, and the woman was soon intercepted by border guards.

Swiss investigators believe there may be a connection between the missing man and the body recovered on the French side of the Saône River. The remains, found in Fédry near Vesoul, were dressed only in underwear and had been cut in two at the waist. They were coated with a white substance, apparently quicklime, intended to conceal DNA traces.

The autopsy revealed deep wounds to the victim’s skull, back, and torso. Death was caused by severe bleeding following a blow to the chest before the body was dismembered.

Officials from both countries are cooperating to reconstruct the circumstances of this particularly violent crime and establish who bears responsibility.
