Drug kingpin Tony Mokbel has been sentenced to time already served after his attempt to overturn one drug-trafficking conviction failed.
Gangland figure Tony Mokbel will not serve additional time for trafficking 41 kilograms of methamphetamine while evading police.
At 60 years old, Mokbel appeared relieved and shared a passionate kiss with his girlfriend following the Victorian Court of Appeal ruling on Thursday.
Mokbel originally sought to quash his 2006 conviction, alleging that his case was compromised by barrister-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo. However, in October, the court declined his appeal on the drug-trafficking charge known as Operation Magnum.
The court upheld the conviction and re-sentenced Mokbel to 13 years, seven months, and 15 days—time he has already served.
Justice McLeish stated, "While the offending was serious and flagrant, Mokbel's unusual circumstances warranted the more modest sentence."
Mokbel was arrested and extradited to Melbourne in 2008. In 2011, he pleaded guilty to the Magnum offense and two other drug charges.
Earlier in 2025, he successfully appealed and had his two other convictions, known as Quills and Orbital, overturned.
Summary: Despite serious charges and prior convictions, Tony Mokbel has served his sentence entirely and will not return to prison following appeals and resentencing.
