In a new health concern for consumers, First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Connecticut, has issued a recall of three tomato sauce products after potential contamination risks were identified.

According to a statement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall affects the following products:
- First and Last Original Marinara Sauce, Tomato & Basil
- First and Last Original Traditional Pasta Sauce, Meat Flavored
- First and Last Original Puttanesca Sauce, Mildly Hot & Spicy
All products come in 26 FL OZ jars and were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts through Big Y and Stop & Shop stores beginning September 22, 2025. The sauces have “Use By” dates of September 2026.
FDA Concerns and Health Risks
The FDA reported that these items were produced without an approved manufacturing schedule or evaluation process, increasing the likelihood of contamination by Clostridium botulinum.
This bacterium can cause botulism, a rare but potentially life-threatening illness that leads to severe foodborne poisoning. Symptoms can progress rapidly and, in the most serious cases, may cause respiratory failure or death.
