Season 5 of Stranger Things premieres later this month, sparking curiosity about the cast's relationships off-screen. Although the actors have grown up together, their real-life closeness varies.
In 2023, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, shared with GQ that the cast members don’t text each other daily. He compared the group to a family, explaining:
“Do you text your cousins every day? They’re our family. We’ll talk on each other’s birthdays. But in the same way that family works, if I ever needed anything, they’re there.”
Wolfhard, now 22, also humorously noted that Winona Ryder, who plays Joyce Byers, is “one of the funniest texters ever, because she’ll text you and then you’ll text her back and then she won’t text you ever again.”
Last year, Ryder caused a stir by omitting Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven/Jane Hopper) when listing her favorite co-stars. Speaking to Esquire in August 2024, Ryder said:
“I love the boys and I love Sadie [Sink] and Maya [Hawke].”
She also remarked on some younger actors' attitudes toward movies:
“I don’t mean to sound so hopeless. There are a few that are just not interested in movies. Like, the first thing they say is, ‘How long is it?’”
Fans speculated she was referencing Brown, who had admitted earlier that year she struggles to watch entire films.
The cast of Stranger Things maintain close bonds more like family than constant communication, with some tensions hinted at in recent remarks, but overall support remains strong.
