Sudan's Paramilitary Forces Kill Hundreds at Darfur Hospital

According to the World Health Organization's director-general, around 460 patients and their companions were killed at the Saudi Hospital in el-Fasher by fighters from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The assault followed the RSF’s seizure of the city in western Darfur over the weekend.

The United Nations, displaced residents, and aid workers described severe atrocities committed during the takeover. Survivors recounted scenes of chaos and brutality as the RSF stormed healthcare facilities and nearby neighborhoods.

“Sudan’s paramilitary forces killed hundreds of people including patients in a hospital after they seized el-Fasher city in the western Darfur region,” said the report from the U.N. and aid workers.

Satellite images from Airbus DS, taken in early October, show significant damage around the Saudi Maternity Hospital and other medical infrastructure in el-Fasher. Additional imagery revealed objects near what appear to be RSF vehicles in the Daraja Oula neighborhood.

Displaced Sudanese from el-Fasher are now sheltering in Tawila, describing the aftermath of the massacre and the continuing instability that plagues the Darfur region.
