Mexico’s President Sheinbaum Takes Legal Action After Groping Incident

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has filed legal charges against a man she said was drunk and harassed her on Tuesday, calling the act

“an assault on all women.”

According to Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada, the suspect was arrested overnight and is being held at the Sex Crimes Investigation Unit. The assault occurred when a man forced his way through a crowd greeting Sheinbaum in downtown Mexico City and allegedly touched her inappropriately.

Viral footage shows the man approaching Sheinbaum, appearing to touch her chest and trying to kiss her before one of her senior aides, Juan José Ramírez Mendoza, stepped in to stop him. The video quickly sparked public outrage and reignited discussions about women’s safety and harassment in public life.

Authorities said early findings suggest the same individual may have been involved in harassing two other women on the same day. CNN is seeking confirmation on whether the suspect has legal representation.

On Wednesday, Sheinbaum, the first woman to serve as Mexico’s president, said she was determined to pursue legal action against the man, describing him as

“completely drunk.”
