A man has been detained by police after a disturbing incident involving Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum. The episode occurred Tuesday while Sheinbaum was speaking with residents in Mexico City.

According to footage, the man, who appeared intoxicated, approached Sheinbaum, placed his arm around her shoulder, and attempted to kiss her. Moments later, he lifted his other hand toward her chest before officials quickly intervened.

Sheinbaum, visibly uncomfortable, responded calmly as the man was taken away by authorities. The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains in police custody.

“No man has the right to violate that space,” said Sheinbaum. “I decided to press charges because this is something that I experienced as a woman, but that we as women experience in our country.”

Sheinbaum added that this was not the first time she had faced such behavior, recalling similar experiences from her earlier years as a student.
