The Miss Universe 2025 pageant began amid controversy when Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, walked out after being publicly insulted by a pageant director. The incident happened before a sash ceremony and was live-streamed on the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page.
Nawat Itsaragrisil, vice president for Asia and Oceania of the Miss Universe Organization and director of Miss Grand International, confronted Bosch about missing a sponsor photo shoot earlier that day. He demanded she explain her absence on camera and called her “dumb” during the exchange. When Bosch defended herself, Nawat called for security.
Following the confrontation, Miss Mexico and several other contestants left the event in protest, including current Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig.
