The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) announced on Tuesday that the 74th Miss Universe competition in Bangkok will proceed as planned, despite recent tensions involving contestants and Nawat Itsaragrisil, chairman of the Miss Universe Thailand Host Committee and CEO of the Miss Grand International Organization (MGI).
During the Sashing Ceremony on November 4, several contestants, including Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, walked out following a confrontation with Nawat Itsaragrisil. Video footage shared online showed the heated exchange in front of other participants. Following Bosch’s departure, other contestants, including Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Thelvåg, also exited the room.
“All scheduled events and activities will continue as planned, in full cooperation with the host country and MGI,” MUO stated. The organization emphasized its dedication to upholding the Miss Universe values of “diversity, empowerment, and inclusion.”
MUO reaffirmed its intent to work closely with the host community, MGI, and local partners to ensure the pageant’s smooth continuation.
A high-level MUO delegation, led by Chief Executive Officer Mario Búcaro, is traveling to Thailand to enhance coordination with the pageant's organizers and local authorities.
The MUO remains committed to delivering a global celebration true to the spirit of Miss Universe despite the challenges faced.
“We remain focused on delivering a global celebration that reflects Miss Universe’s values of diversity, empowerment, and inclusion.”
