There are a select few areas in Essex where you can buy a really cheap home - if you know where to look.

RightMove’s latest figures show that the overall average house price in Essex over the past year is around £424,783, indicating a broad range in pricing across the county. However, not all locations follow this high-price trend, and some areas remain comparatively inexpensive.

In the past year, one notably cheap listing appeared on Rightmove: a one-bedroom flat in a sought-after area of Harlow, listed at £51,250 in March, marking it as among the most affordable options in Essex this year.

Harlow has faced criticism for being perceived as run-down by some, with nicknames such as “the dullest place in the UK.” Nonetheless, plans for rejuvenation are underway, including upcoming work that is set to begin before Christmas, with hoardings expected to appear in the near term.
