Toyota has officially unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux, one of the most anticipated vehicle launches of the year. The event took place in Thailand, a major production and launch hub for Toyota’s pickup trucks.
A significant update is the introduction of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant alongside traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) models. Engine types and availability will vary by country, with Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) expected to announce local specifications later.
The new Hilux keeps its signature boxy silhouette but features a refreshed exterior look. Key updates on ICE models include a redesigned honeycomb grille inspired by the Corolla Cross. Slim LED headlights and daytime running lights stretch across the upper front, complemented by a black horizontal bar that replaces the usual Toyota badge with bold “Toyota” lettering.
“The redesigned honeycomb grille draws inspiration from the updated Corolla Cross,” Toyota said.
Author’s summary: The ninth-generation Toyota Hilux is set to launch globally in 2026, introducing updated styling and a new electric variant while maintaining its iconic design and strong market presence.
