Wildlife photographer Doug Gemmell experienced an unexpected encounter on a routine outing when a juvenile bald eagle, instead of fishing, swooped down into a parking lot and grabbed a slice of pepperoni pizza.
Doug Gemmell, known for photographing birds of prey, had planned to capture the eagle’s fishing prowess at a nearby lake. However, the eagle diverted from the water and landed among cars, exhibiting behavior rarely seen by birdwatchers.
Reviewing his shots, Gemmell found one that stunned him: the eagle firmly holding a slice of pizza in its talons.
“It’s not something you see every day, that’s for sure.”
This unusual scene illustrates how urban wildlife has adapted to human environments, sometimes turning to unexpected food sources.
Doug Gemmell’s photo of a bald eagle clutching pizza highlights the surprising adaptability of wildlife in cities and offers a quirky glimpse into nature’s changing behavior.
