Jennifer Lawrence humorously described teaming up with Robert Pattinson in the film Die My Love as “total revenge” after her failed audition for the Twilight series. In an alternate reality, Lawrence would have played Bella Swan alongside Pattinson’s Edward Cullen.
On the 2023 podcast The Rewatchables, Lawrence revealed that the studio rejected her “immediately” and she “didn’t even get a callback” for the role of Bella Swan.
More than a decade and two blockbuster franchises later, Lawrence and Pattinson reunited on screen in the Mubi film Die My Love. Lawrence joked at the New York premiere,
“Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted.”
Directed by Lynne Ramsay, her first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here, Die My Love is a psychological drama. Lawrence portrays a writer unraveling mentally amidst a turbulent marriage and motherhood pressures. On screen, Lawrence and Pattinson exchange sharp verbal insults in intense bursts, contrasting their calm off-screen dynamic.
Lawrence shared,
“My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time. I really appreciate that in a coworker.”
Pattinson recalled watching Lawrence’s breakthrough role in the 2010 drama Winter’s Bone, where she played a poverty-stricken teenager searching for her father in the Ozarks.
Jennifer Lawrence sees working with Robert Pattinson in Die My Love as a satisfying comeback after her early rejection from the Twilight franchise, highlighting their unique off-screen rapport and intense on-screen chemistry.
