Former India batter Robin Uthappa shared insights about Jasprit Bumrah's bowling during the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Uthappa suggested that Bumrah struggles to maintain his rhythm when he becomes overly eager to take wickets.
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa explained that Bumrah's rare off day was linked to him trying too hard to influence the game. This was evident as India defended a modest total of 125, which Australia chased comfortably in under 14 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Though Bumrah took two wickets and gave away only 26 runs in his four overs, Uthappa felt the pacer was not at his typical composed level.
"When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward."
Uthappa noted that Bumrah's occasional loss of line or length usually comes from his enthusiasm to strike early in the innings, which can disrupt his usual discipline and control.
Author's summary: Jasprit Bumrah’s eagerness to take early wickets at MCG caused him to lose rhythm, impacting India's bowling discipline in a crucial T20I match.
