First and Last Bakery, LLC of Hartford, Connecticut, has announced a recall of several tomato sauce products after the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection identified a potential health risk.
The items were sold in 26 FL OZ jars in Connecticut and Massachusetts, mainly through Big Y stores and possibly other retailers. Distribution occurred between September 22 and October 28, 2025.
The sauces were made without an approved scheduled process or proper safety evaluation. Such failure may allow the growth of Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that produces dangerous toxins in low-acid or improperly processed foods.
Botulism, a rare but serious illness, can cause symptoms such as general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulty speaking or swallowing. Breathing trouble, muscle weakness, abdominal bloating, and constipation may also occur.
Production and sales of the affected sauce have been halted to meet safety standards. As of now, no illnesses linked to these products have been reported.
This recall highlights the critical importance of verified food processing methods to protect consumers from serious health risks like botulism poisoning.
