New Zealand have announced a 14-player squad for their upcoming five-match T20I series at home against the West Indies, which will serve as preparation for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Several key players will miss the series due to injuries. Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring) are all unavailable for selection. Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson and spinner Ish Sodhi have been included and will be key members of the squad.
Former captain Kane Williamson will not feature after confirming his retirement from T20 internationals. Mitchell Santner will again lead the team as they prepare for the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Uncapped pacer Nathan Smith has been named and could make his T20I debut, while Matt Henry is rested to remain fit for the upcoming ODI and Test series against the Caribbean side.
The five-match home series holds significance as New Zealand’s last opportunity to assess their squad before the global tournament early next year.
“It’s great to have five opportunities to take on a dangerous side like the West Indies,” said New Zealand coach Rob Walter.
The injury-hit New Zealand squad, led by Mitchell Santner, will use the West Indies series as a key tune-up ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, showcasing both experienced and emerging talents.
