Calgary Police Arrest 20 in Downtown Enforcement Blitz

Dozens of Calgary police officers, transit peace officers, and social agency workers converged on the city’s downtown core on Wednesday as part of a large-scale enforcement operation.

Operation Order Launched

Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan announced the initiative, calling it a firm response to ongoing issues.

“Enough is enough.”

This operation, named “Operation Order,” is the first major public initiative since McLellan took office earlier this year. It is a component of the wider “Safer Calgary” strategy.

Focus Areas and Mission

The enforcement blitz targeted areas such as East Village, Stephen Avenue, and Century Gardens. The team’s goal was to enforce laws, issue tickets, make arrests, and connect vulnerable individuals with social support services.

Example of Enforcement

One of the first tickets went to Grant Robinson, who was fined $120 for discarding a cigarette butt.

“This is gonna stop me from probably another month because I have to pay it. I won’t be able to save money because I have to give the government money.”

Reporters accompanied officers on patrol through back alleys and transit platforms during the operation.
